Mumbai food: Bengal's delicacies now at Andheri east

The Chicken Biryani at Peetuk

For Andheri East residents like me who love Bengali food, but had no other option but to either head to Powai or Oshiwara to satisfy my monthly cravings, Peetuk has come like a boon in disguise.

Peetuk in Powai and Kandivli have both been supreme successes and have many fans in these areas, and now they recently launched their branch on the Mahakali Caves road. The Mahakali branch also provides the same authenticity to their dishes and wants you to try more. The Biryani is the mildly spiced and uses long grain basmati, to bring in this flavorful and aromatic dish home. We ordered in a Chicken biryani, and it came with the quintessential boiled egg and a potato. The paratha and kosha mangsho also touched the right notes on flavor. Mutton Kosha was a little oily, but had big bold dark flavor which comes from the proper caramelization of sugar.

The price is reasonable and the quantities are big. A chicken biryani at 190/- with another side of a kebab can easily feed two people with regular diets. A meal for two should be within 400/-. Vegetarians might find it difficult to order from here, the menu has limited veg options and look like an afterthought. I would have loved to see some begun (eggplants) preparations.

Kosha Paratha

Overall, a very satisfying value-for- money experience, and a happy comforting feeling to have found Peetuk in my backyard. I cannot wait to move on to the plethora of chiefly non-vegetarian but delicious menu from the east. Kathi rolls and sorshe maachh here I come.
