The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to have a logo for branding its property and also the services provided by it.

The official proposal of the logo will be tabled before the civic Standing Committee for approval. It then will be placed before the general body for a final nod.

Rahul Shewale, chairman of the Standing Committee said, "The official proposal will be submitted before the committee for its approval."

The new logo costs BMC Rs 35 lakh as making charges and it will be used only after the general body approves it.

The logo will be in line with those of international cities like New York and Melbourne. The theme for the logo will be 'Majhi Mumbai' (My Mumbai) with black, orange and blue colours.

"Orange signifies passion, unity, friendship, while blue symbolises depth of the sea and sky and shows importance of the Mumbai city," said Shewale.u00a0

Over the central gable, on the south side of the BMC Building is a 4 metre-high (13 feet) winged allegorical statue representing the title that was proudly conferred upon and adopted by the city — Urbs Primus in Indis (Latin: foremost city in India) — with the arms of the Municipal Corporation contained in a circular panel beneath it. The BMC building was designed by FW Stevens and opened in 1893.
