Mumbai: Inquiry begins against bullying constable

The day mid-day blew the whistle off the high-handedness of a drunk police constable in Malwani, who terrorised locals for two hours, and assaulted and molested a eunuch last Friday night, an inquiry, headed by DCP (zone 11) Vikram Deshmane, was initiated against him.

On Monday, DCP and Mumbai Police spokesperson Dhananajay Kulkarni said the constable, identified as AR Pawar from a video shot by a local, works with the local arms (LA) unit IV (reserve) of Marol police and had been deputed to Malwani on the day he unleashed terror on passers-by. The LA unit has been asked to submit a report by today, based on which action is likely to be taken against the errant policeman.

Shantilal Bhamare, DCP of LA unit V of Kole Kalyan, who holds the additional charge of LA IV, confirmed that the inquiry has begun.
