Mumbai lawyer attacked with paver block by bike-borne men
Manohar Kandalkar inspects his car. He was sitting on the left side in the rear seat and had a lucky escape
Special Public Prosecutor Manohar Kandalkar, 60, a resident of Shivaji Park, Dadar, was attacked with a paver block while he was on his way to the Sessions Court.
On Tuesday morning, Kandalkar, who was the special PP in the case involving Preeti Jain and two others for plotting to kill Madhur Bhandarkar, left home for the Sessions Court, in his car. He was sitting on the left in the rear seat.
When the driver was about to take Parel bridge near Bamboo Gali, he realised two men on a white bike were following him.
Suddenly, the pillion rider who was carrying a paver block, threw it at the car's right rear window. The block shattered the glass and fell in the car.
Fortunately, as Kandalkar was sitting on the left side, it did not hit him. The riders fled after this, while Kandalkar went straight to Bhoiwada police station and filed a complaint under Sections 307, 427 and 34 of IPC.
Was attacked before
Speaking to mid-day, Kandalkar said, "On June 30, when I was in the car at Shivaji Park, a man knocked at my car window, and asked for my name, and put his hand around my shoulder. I thought he was trying to snatch my chain but he couldn't. That's why I didn't pay much attention. But he was the same person who attacked me today."
Senior Inspector Dattaray Patil, Bhoiwada police station, said, "We have registered an offence against two unknown persons and are checking CCTV footage."
In April, this year, a Sessions Court had convicted Preeti Jain and two others for plotting to kill Bollywood filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar. Kandalkar was a special Public Prosecutor in the case.
