An incident of firing was reported in Mumbai at around 12.30 am Friday near the Amboli suburbs, wherein a man fired bullets at a bar manager.


The accused, identified as Vikram Kumar (50), was allegedly eavesdropping on the SMSes of a female patron at the pub .The woman then complained to the pub manager, after which he was asked to apologise to the woman. In a fit of rage, Kumar pulled out his licensed revolver and opened fire at the manager.


The injured has been identified as Jitendra Kumar Jha, manager of Escape Bar. He was admitted to the nearby Kokilaben Ambani Hospital immediately after the incident.


The accused is a jewellery shop owner and was held right from the spot after the local police arrived at the bar.

An officer from Amboli police station said, “Kumar was outraging the modesty of a woman present in the bar because of which she chose to go and complain with the bar manager. The manager then tried explaining him, but he in turn got shot in his leg. The accused was creating menace even after firing and was later held.”

The accused has been booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent) of the Indian Penal Code while Amboli police is still interrogating the matter. The weapon was also recovered by the police.
