Faasos left one of its regular customers with a bad taste in the mouth after he discovered an unexpected ingredient in his wrap — a plastic cap. To cap it all, the fast food chain chose not to respond to his emailed complaint, and instead called and offered to give him two free meals.

At lunchtime in his Parel office on Monday, Kewal Doshi and his colleagues decided to order rolls from Faasos, as they often did. He never imagined that the Rs 100 egg wrap would threaten his very life.

“We all regularly order from the branch in Parel. On Monday, I ordered an egg wrap, but after two bites, I felt a hard object in my mouth. When I spat it out, I was surprised to see the plastic cap. It could have proved deadly had I gulped it down,” said Doshi, further adding, “This kind of negligence, that too by such a well-known eatery, is unacceptable,.”

Doshi wrote an email to the eatery to complain about his experience but got no reply. Instead, the branch called him the next day to offer two free meals in compensation.

“After I sent an email on Monday, I got a call on Tuesday from the centre and they offered me two free meals for their negligence. But they still didn’t reply to my email,” he said.

The other side
Swapnil Share, area manager for Faasos, Parel, said, “We are officially not entitled to reply to any email. So, we called him up and also offered him two free meals in compensation.”

“We have checked the CCTV footage to understand how it happened, but couldn’t find anything. We also cross-checked with the employees and searched the floor and kitchen, but have no clue how the cap got inside the wrap.”

Vaibhav Sawant, the zonal manager of Faasos did not respond to calls or messages.

“This could have proved fatal if the cap got stuck in the throat. Even if it had been swallowed, it would have to be removed immediately, as foreign objects inside the body can be harmful to a person’s health,” said Dr Amit Thadhani, surgeon and medical director at Niramaya Hospitals.
