Those whose current tenements are of an area bigger than 300 sq.ft would be getting houses with at least 30 per cent more area, he added.
Nobody will be evicted unless the draft plan for the rehabilitation is ready, the chief minister said.
Fadnavis reiterated the government's stand about rehabilitating 777 families from 28 buildings that are coming in the way of Metro's phase III (which will run between Colaba and Seepz) in accommodation better than their existing houses.
The residents of these buildings can temporarily shift to the MHADA buildings in the nearby areas, or they can opt for compensatory rent, he said.
The benefits out of FSI availed under the development control rule for the project in the area will be passed on to the PAPs to offer them bigger houses.
Though the formula is yet to be finalised, the tenants with houses of area more than 300 sq.ft will be given additional area of at least 30 per cent, Fadnavis said.
In all, 28 buildings in Girgaum, Kalabadevi and Mahim will have to be demolished to make way for the project.
