A 32-year-old Mumbai-based model, who was also Miss Maharashtra Global Tourism, and in the news over her alleged affair with a Pakistani cricketer, was rescued from a purported prostitution racket by the Pune city crime branch yesterday from a four-star hotel.

However, a few hours later, after she was sent to an observation home, she assaulted her caretaker and ran away.

The police are now on the lookout for the model, identified as Arshi Khan, and have registered a separate case against her.

Wee-hour drama
On Tuesday around 5 am, the Social Security Cell of the crime branch, after getting a tip-off about a prostitution racket being run from a four-star hotel, laid a trap by sending a decoy and then carried out a raid, only to see Khan with three agents.

Police says
Inspector Sanjay Patil, in-charge of the Cell, said, “She claimed that she was innocent; hence, we rescued her. After we recorded her statement, she underwent a medical check-up, and then, we sent her to an observation home for rehabilitation.” Around 7 am she was given food, after which a check-up was done at Sassoon hospital and then, she was taken to the home for women on Mundhwa-Wanawadi road.

CCTV footage
“The caretaker was cleaning the area and our constable was holding Khan. Suddenly, she pulled the constable, kicked and punched her and ran away. We are inspecting footage from the nearby CCTV to get some clues. We’ll find her soon,” said Sachin Patil, inspector and in-charge of Wanawadi police station.

Courting controversy
Police sources said, “Khan hails from Bhopal and has been residing in Mira-Bhayander area. When she was rescued, she again claimed that she was Shahid Afridi’s girlfriend.”

All three have been arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code as well as PITA (The Immoral Traffic [Prevention] Act).
