Top seeds Tanishq Saxena and Aarya Deshpande sailed into the quarter-finals of the U-15 boys and girls groups respectively, of the first Maharashtra sub-junior badminton championship under the aegis of Maharashtra Badminton Association at the Kalidas Sports Complex in Mulund yesterday.
Mumbai suburban’s Saxena outplayed Ratnagiri’s Rajas Mahagoankar 21-8, 21-7 in the boys group, while Satara’s Deshpande eased past Pune’s Riya Habbu 21-13, 21-9 in the girls group. In other matches of the girls U-15, second seed Rudra Rane of Greater Mumbai comfortably beat Mumbai suburban’s Aalisha Naik 21-8, 21-8, while Janhavi Kanitkar of Pune strolled past Ankita Murgude of Kolhapur 21-9, 21-8 to make the last eight.

In the boys U-15 group, Varun Kapur and Atharv Aras of Pune defeated their opponents Tanay Patankar and Yash Suryavanshi to enter the quarter-finals of the championship.
