For Amjad Khan, killing RTI activist Bhupendra Vira was an act of revenge for all the trouble he had caused to his elderly father, ex-corporator Razzak Khan. A day after he confessed to murdering Vira, Amjad has given the reasons that made him go through with the murder. All of them revolve around the enmity his father and Vira shared, mainly over a property dispute.

The primary reason was the personal enmity between Razzak and Vira that made Amjad get hold of the murder weapon – a 7.65 bore gun – on October 15. Amjad had said he conducted the murder alone and told the police that his father was unaware of his decision. Cops earlier believed the murder could not have been a one-person job as Razzak had admitted himself in a hospital after the shootout, raising suspicion on his role in the incident.

An officer from the crime branch said, “In the interrogations, Amjad has stated that he was solely behind the decision to kill the activist, but we are probing to see if Razzak or any other person was also involved in the conspiracy or the murder.”

“The reasons which Amjad has given behind shooting Vira involve a property dispute between the Khans and Vira [Khan had allegedly land-grabbed Chandu Compound, which Vira owned a part of]. After this, he had filed multiple complaints against the Khans and the fight had turned personal. The multiple complaints had also led Razzak reeling in constant stress. Amjad had been observing his tensed father,” the officer added.

Razzak had even wanted to settle the issue with Vira. The activist had demanded Rs 2 crore for the same, which Razzak did not agree to.
