The Tak family had moved into their dream home only one-and-a-half month ago in the ill-fated Siddhi Sai building, but Tuesday was an absolute nightmare for them. Homeowner and breadwinner Lalit Tak, 38, and his son Virat, 6, are currently the only survivors from the family.

His wife Amruta, 33, and their three-month-old daughter Veronica were found dead in the debris, while his mother Pramila, 63, is missing.

The family was residing in a one-room kitchen flat on the third floor.

Lalit works at a cloth market and owns another tenement in Anandibhai Chawl, located behind the collapsed building.

Varsha, one of the injured, had seen Amruta holding Veronica in her arms when the building came down. She said she had started running down the stairs when she saw them going down.
