He may have just finished college, but this 22-year-old from Mira Road has taught everyone an important lesson in humanity, after he rescued a two-day-old infant who was abandoned on the road.

Mayank Agarwal, who recently completed his final year Bachelors course in Accounting and Finance (BAF) from National College, found the baby boy hidden under a car outside his building and rushed him to hospital for timely treatment.
“Someone who was passing by heard a baby crying and informed the building watchman, who then informed me about it as I was going out around 7.45 pm on October 18. I went and looked for the baby and find him below one of the cars parked on the road. The boy was wrapped in a pink cloth and was crying. I took him to the hospital. The local corporator, Anil Virani, helped to get the baby admitted. I feel proud about saving the baby,” said Agarwal.
Lucky to survive
Thanks to Agarwal’s efforts, the baby in pink is now in the pink of health. He was treated at the hospital for two days and is now at an orphanage in Dombivli. The police have registered a case against the unidentified person who abandoned the baby. Cops enquired about recent deliveries at maternity hospitals and found CCTV footage of two women leaving Rajiv Gandhi hospital with an infant wrapped in the same pink cloth that the abandoned newborn was found in. Hospital staff confirmed that the mother and baby were discharged on the evening of October 18. But when cops tried to track down the mother, they realised that she had provided a fake name and address at the hospital.
Police says
“We have registered a case under Section 318 of the IPC and are searching for the accused woman with the help of the CCTV footage,” said Senior Inspector RK Jadhav from Naya Nagar police station.
