A punctured tyre led to the death of four near Vadpe Bhiwandi Bypass as the car turned turtle and flipped on to the other side of the road, before being hit by a truck. The incident took place early on Tuesday, between 9 am and 9.15 am, when the Nashik based family was heading to Thane. The car had six occupants at the time of the accident. The deceased have been identified as Parveen Nasruddin Hudda, 56, Afsin Moiz Hudda, 25, Gulshan Bahadur Lakhani, 53 and Bahadur Musabhai Lakhani, 55. Although the driver, Moiz Nasruddin Hudda, 31, suffered severe injuries, an elderly member of the family escaped with minor bruises.

Assistant police inspector Anil Jagtap said, "Moiz was behind the wheels of the Innova. As per initial investigations, the car was moving at high speed when its tyre got punctured near Vadpe Bhiwandi Bypass. It hit the divider, turned turtle and flipped on to the other side of the road. Truck driver Asif Shaikh Bholu Shaikh, 25, was heading towards Nashik from Mumbai. When the car flipped on to his lane, he didn't have much time to react and hit the car at a high speed. Four occupants died on the spot."

Cops have booked Moiz under Sections 304 (A) (causing death by negligence), 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life) and 427 (mischief causing damage) of the IPC and Section 184 (driving dangerously) of the Motor Vehicle Act.

"It was the Innova driver's negligence and rash driving that killed four people. Rash driving on the highway is punishable. All the bodies have been handed over to their families. We have learnt that the family was heading to Thane for a special namaaz meet. They were accompanied by other family members in cars that were trailing the Innova," Jagtap said.
