Cleaning up Versova beach is one of the top five ways in the city to show you care about the environment; now underprivileged children want a piece of that action. On Friday, 30 children associated with the Dhai Akshar Educational Trust joined environmentalist Afroz Shah and undertook as cleanup drive to gather the piles of plastic and other waste dumped at the beach.

Shah said, "The work of beach cleanup will continue in the monsoon also. The other good news is that the underprivileged children from the slum pockets in Wadi 3 have also joined us in the noble cause and are working hard to clean our sea. These kids have been cleaning up with us for the past four weeks and have understood the importance of this initiative. Now, they want to create awareness among other children about the importance of not littering."

Till date, Shah and the team have removed over 5 million kg of garbage from the beach.
