Mumbai: Police detain carpenter for killing 55-year-old in Shivaji Park

Cops have nabbed carpenter, held as main suspect in the murder of Dadar resident Belieza Cardozo. They claim to have cracked the case with the detention of the 40-year-old 

Mumbai: Police detain carpenter for killing 55-year-old in Shivaji Park

The Shivaji Park police have nabbed a carpenter, held as the main suspect in the murder of Dadar resident Belieza Cardozo. Cops claim to have cracked the case with the detention of the 40-year-old carpenter named Manoj Verma.

He was nabbed from the city yesterday. mid-day had carried a report on Cardozo’s murder on November 5. On November 4, Belieza’s maid Mangala Surve had entered Cardozo’s home using a spare key.


She found Belieza’s body in a pool of blood. She was rushed to the Hinduja Hospital, but succumbed to her injuries. Requesting anonymity, an officer from the Shivaji Park police station said, “Repairing work was going on inside their house. We kept tabs on the workers there, of which one carpenter named Manoj Verma had been missing since the time of the murder.”

Belieza with husband Tom Cardozo

A mason who was working at Cardozo’s residence was interrogated. Through him, the cops learnt about the suspect’s Uttar Pradesh home, which he had registered while taking a job with the contractor. A team of two officers and a constable was sent to Verma’s Uttar Pradesh residence, but his roommates claimed that Verma had immediately left after packing all of his belongings.

“Nobody knew the name of the village where the accused’s wife and his children resided. So we have been monitoring his CDR (Call Data Records) location through which we came to know that he was in Mumbai and we nabbed him instantly,” added an officer.
