A police sub-inspector was killed in a road accident here today after a speeding car collided with his motorcycle, police said

Mumbai: A police sub-inspector was killed in a road accident here today after a speeding car collided with his motorcycle, police said.


According to police, sub-inspector Rajaram Desai (53) and his colleague, constable Shankar Kadam (42) were going home in Mulund on a motorcycle, with Desai as the pillion during the wee hours of today.


Desai and Kadam, attached with Chembur Traffic police division, were on duty in the night, performing drunk and driving drive. "After the duty, they were returning home and Kadam was driving. At about 1:45 AM, a car dashed their motorcycle in which Desai sustained serious injuries while Kadam escaped with minor injuries," Sanjeevani Rupnavar, sub-inspector at Vikhroli police station said.


"Desai was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was declared dead at about 3:00 AM. The man driving the car has been identified as Mitesh Modi (33), and was subsequently arrested," Rupnavar said.

The accused, Modi was booked under IPC sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304 A (causing death by negligence), she added.
