With torrential rains lashing down on the city in the past week, it seems like we have hit a bit of a dry spell. As per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) this situation is likely to continue till Wednesday.

A report by the Times Of India, stated that IMD officials have predicted only a few spells of intermittent rain and showers over the next two days. In a statement, a scientist from IMD Mumbai, Ajay Kumar said, "The low pressure system over Saurashtra, which was giving the city significant showers, has weakened and currently, there is no other weather system in the Arabian Sea. Therefore, no heavy rains can be expected in Mumbai region in the coming days."

This year the onset of the monsoons was predicted to be on June 12. After a weak start, heavy yet isolated showers were seen across the city. This changed on Monday when the amount of rain recorded in 12 hours from 8:30am -8:30pm by MIDC Colaba was only 0.5mm and Santacruz recorded 0.8mm. In the past 24 hours over July 2nd and 3rd meager rainfall was recorded with IMD Colaba recording only 4.4mm and 18.2 recorded by the Santacruz Observatory.

The total rainfall recorded so far by the Colaba Observatory is 575.6mm, which is 69.5mm below average, while Santacruz recorded 683.8mm – 69.3mm above average.
