Mumbai school-girl molestation: 'My husband was framed', claims cleaner's wife

The wife of Ramesh Rajput, the man accused of sexually assaulting and molesting a three-year-old girl inside the school bus, has claimed that her husband “would never molest a girl, as he has two children of his own.” Speaking to SMD minutes after a red-faced Mumbai police dropped the charge of rape against the 35-year-old cleaner to the lesser charge of molestation, following the findings of a medical report, which ruled our rape, Rajput’s wife Chhaya, said he was framed.u00a0

Chhaya said that her husband, who was identified as a cleaner by police, is in fact the driver and wanted to know, who the actual cleaner of the bus is. His family says he has been working as a school bus driver for 15 years and has a clean track record.

“He swore on our children that he is innocent,” she claimed. She said one Prakash Menon, the supervisor of Sai Ganesh (the firm which runs the school buses and where Rajput was employed), arrived at their house around 11am on Thursday and took Rajput to the school, from where he was arrested.

Chhaya, who works as a maid, said, “I was at work. My husband left our two-year-old daughter at our neighbour’s house. Later that night I came to know about the arrest.”

City police commissioner Satyapal Singh said, “There is no rape. Medical reports suggest it’s a case of molestation.” He added that the female attendant, identified as Veena Mahadik, was helping children get down from the bus. “Rajput took advantage of the situation and allegedly touched the girl inappropriately,” he said.u00a0
