Fit-again KL Rahul is all set to open the innings for India with Murali Vijay as the hosts look to clinch the five-match Test series against England in the fourth Test at the Wankhede Stadium today. India are leading the series 2-0.

Putting to rest all confusion regarding India’s opening pair, skipper Virat Kohli made it clear that Vijay and Rahul are specialist openers and they will continue to bat in the same spot. Wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel, who made a comeback after eight years, opened the innings in Mohali in place of the injured Rahul and went on to score an unbeaten fifty. However, Kohli preferred to go with specialist openers, which means Patel will have to bat at number six.

“They (Vijay and Rahul) are specialist openers, so there is no question of them not opening. They are not guys who have batted in different positions and they have opened for their state and country as well. They will be our specialist openers,” said Kohli while addressing the media during the pre-match conference yesterday.

Kohli also defended Vijay and Rahane, who are struggling for runs against the England bowlers.
