Mumbai: To avoid reckless biker, man rams Merc into four vehicles

In what could be termed as a miraculous escape, four victims of a road accident that took place on SV Road near St Teresa’s Convent High School, in Santacruz (W), walked away with injuries and a few bruises after a head-on collision occurred between a Mercedes and a Santro.

Following its collision with the Santro driven by a woman the Mercedes rammed into three auto-rickshaws that were parked nearby. The incident occurred yesterday around 10.45 am. All the victims — the driver of the Santro and three auto-rickshaw drivers were rushed to Bhabha Hospital for treatment.

'It wasn’t his fault'
Auto driver Rambhadur Singh, who sustained stitches to his right hand and injured his knees, said the accident occurred due to a reckless motorcyclist. “The Mercedes was coming from Khar, when a stupid biker brushed it. In order to avoid knocking down the biker, the car driver took a hard left and lost control of the vehicle. He first rammed into the Santro, and then us.”

Jitendra Patel, the auto driver who sustained head injuries, said the entire incident happened in a matter of seconds. “There was hardly any traffic on the road. Three of us had parked our vehicles next to each other and were waiting for passengers. The next thing we knew the car had crashed into us.”

The third auto driver, Kripa Shankar Dubey, was bleeding profusely and was administered emergency first aid at the hospital. He was discharged in the afternoon.

Cop speak
Sub-inspector Shivaji Gadge from Santacruz police station said the Mercedes driver was identified as Pratik Gada. “Luckily, no one was seriously injured in the mishap. The reckless biker, who is said to be responsible for the accident, fled the spot. No case was filed against Gada,” he added.
