A 26-year-old woman commuter has alleged that she was assaulted by three other women commuters while travelling on the slow local from Nalasopara to Bandra.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning. The complainant, Prabha Parbhudeva, who has now filed a complaint with the Vasai GRP, told the cops that the women wanted to stand where she was standing — near the footboard in the train. She adds that while other women in the compartment tried to stop the trio, even pulling the chain, they did not succeed.

When the train chugged into Bhayander station, all the women stepped out of the compartment and on to the platform and started shouting. It was this that attracted the attention of the RPF and GRP, who came to the spot. The cops then nabbed the three accused along with Parbhudeva who were then taken to the police station.

The accused have been identified as Azida Bibi (30), Tanuja Bibi (38) and Mashuda (36), all Nalasopara residents

Sources said that Parbhudeva and the three accused — identified as Azida Bibi (30), Tanuja Bibi (38) and Mashuda (36) — boarded the train at Nalasopara. Due to the rush, the complainant couldn't go inside the compartment and the three accused tried to make space for themselves near the footboard. They then started pushing the complainant and a fight ensued. The complainant says the other women then started beating her, holding her hair, punching her on the chest and abdomen and they also bit her on the hands.

Parbhudeva, a resident of Nalasopara, has been working as a nanny in Goregaon (East). She was on her way to work at the time. The accused also live in Nalasopara. "Parbhudeva was bleeding when we saw her," said commuter Deepa Verma, adding, "The three women were misbehaving in a running train. Anyone standing near the door could have fallen off."
