Mumbai won't drop intensity against Punjab: Jaffer

Despite being assured of a place in the Ranji Trophy knockout, Mumbai skipper Jaffer won't drop the intensity against Punjab today

Though Mumbai have qualified for the knockout, skipper Wasim Jaffer promises not to drop the intensity as 39-time champions take on Punjab in their last Ranji Trophy Elite Division Group A match at the Wankhede stadium today.

Mumbai skipper Wasim Jaffer

"They (Punjab) are a young side, which has done well to be in contention so far, and we respect that. They have some good players. We want to go into the quarters with confidence.

"There is no reason why we should let our intensity down. We can become No 1 and meet a Plate team in the last eight," he told reporters yesterday.

Jaffer also expressed happiness on returning to the Wankhede stadium after a long gap. "Happy to be back here after four years. It is a good feeling."

Mumbai will be without the likes of key batsmen Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Abhishek Nayar and front-line pacers Zaheer Khan and Dhawal Kulkarni while Punjab, who will miss their key players Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh, are in a spot of bother to book the last available berth from the group.
