Mumbai: Year after wife's arrest, man nabbed for peddling meow meow

Mumbai: Year after wife's arrest, man nabbed for peddling meow meow

Officers from Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested Arif Shaikh (44) from Reay Road last week for peddling mephedrone aka Meow Meow. Interestingly, Shaikh has been nabbed exactly a year after his wife was arrested for a similar crime last July.

Shaikh was nabbed following a tip-off received by the ANC’s Azad Maidan unit. Following his arrest, cops recovered 52 grams of Meow Meow, worth Rs 1 lakh, from his possession.

Further investigation revealed that last July, Shaikh’s wife Roma alias Pagli was nabbed by the ANC’s Worli unit for possessing 250 grams of Meow Meow worth Rs 5 lakh. Roma, now an undertrial, is currently out on bail.

ANC officer says
An ANC officer said, “The operation to arrest Shaikh was executed by APIs Nitin Bodhe and Prashant More of the Azad Maidan ANC unit. He was arrested and booked under sections 8(c) and 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and is in police custody till July 19.” DCP Jayant Naiknaware added that Shaikh was nabbed from near a hotel adjacent to Reay Road station.

During interrogation, Shaikh told the officers that he is a resident of Dockyard Road and came in contact with a drug dealer following his mother-in-law’s death in the 1993 Mumbai blasts and has been peddling drugs and contrabands for the last 23 years.
