Mumbai: Yemeni loses Rs 26 lakh in cab

A taxi ride in south Mumbai proved costly for a 32-year-old man from Yemen after he forgot his bag in the cab, along with cash worth Rs 26 lakh.

The foreign national, Al Qadri Melosianyaha, came to the city about a month ago and is currently residing in Mahape, Navi Mumbai. On Monday, he was out sightseeing in SoBo when he forgot the bag in the taxi.

He filed a complaint at the Colaba police station the same night. The complaint states, “Al Qadri had hired a cab from Princess Street to Radio Club in Colaba, but while getting out, he forgot to take his bag, which had US dollars and Indian rupees. He walked for a while before he realised his bag was not with him. He rushed back to the spot where the cab had dropped him but by that time, the cab had left the spot.”

The police have identified two nearby spots where CCTV cameras had been installed and are in the process of recovering the cab’s registration number. “Prima facie, it looks like the cab driver may have fled after finding the bag in the car. Once we get more clues, further action will be taken,” said an officer.
