According to the police, the deceased was identified as Mayur Kadam (24), who worked as a manager for actress and producer Trupti Bhoir (who has acted in films like Agadbam, Touring Talkies). Mayur had gone for a late-night motorcycle ride to Marine Drive on his Karizma bike, and was returning home when the mishap occurred.

Around 11.30 pm, his bike was hit by a Mercedes (MH-46-AD-4646) opposite Oberoi Hotel. The car belongs to Kunal Vardhan, who is the joint MD of a prominent builder firm. Witnesses said the vehicle was driven away from the scene, and that Vardhan later took the victim to Bombay Hospital in a taxi.

Doctors at the hospital declared Kadam dead before arrival. Meanwhile, Vardhan, slunk away, without informing anyone. Mayur’s brother Mandar told mid-day, “We came to know of the accident through a local resident. After the accident, my brother’s phone had fallen on the road.

Someone picked it up and informed us that my brother had met with an accident and that he had been taken to Bombay Hospital. When I reached there, I came to know that the car belonged to Kunal Vardhan, but he wasn’t there.”

‘Delay in case’
Family members alleged that though the accident occurred on Thursday, police refused to register an FIR until Friday evening. “We went to Oberoi Hotel and asked for the CCTV footage of the area where the accident occurred. We met the DCP in the afternoon to file the case,” added Mandar.

When asked about the incident, Bhoir said, “I was not in town. I went to the police station but they were not taking any action. They weren’t even noting down the case.” Reacting to these allegations, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ravindra Shisve said, “We registered a case against Kunal in the evening today (Friday).

We are going through CCTV footage, and after making proper investigations, we will arrest the culprit soon.” He added, “Kunal has admitted that he was driving the car.” But the victim’s family has said that witnesses told them it was a woman who was driving the vehicle.
