Mumbaikars drenched dead in tracks

As rains gushed forth ceaselessly from the skies yesterday, the Mumbaikar out on the street was soaked in bothers flooded streets, puddled ditches, long waits at packed stations and stops. Safe to say that if your umbrella held steady on Friday, the 12th, you had a good day

80% The traffic volume on road was way below the average due to heavy rains. Out of the 3 lakh-odd vehicles that ply every day on Mumbai’s roads, there were 20 per cent fewer vehicles on Friday, traffic officers claim. There were bottlenecks at Gandhi Market and Dadar T T, which led to snarls and hampered the flow of vehicles. In all, traffic was diverted at nine different locations across the city.

Bus and train services scrapped and delayed
Central Railway
140 services cancelled or held up by 30 minutes, thanks to the railway tracks at Thane, Kurla, Masjid and Byculla getting submerged

Western Railway
50 services cancelled or delayed 20 minutes; waterlogging at Vasai, Nalasopara, Bandra, and Mahim

Best buses
3,715 buses turned out on the roads, of the total 4,167 buses; the remaining were at bus depots, mostly for maintenance. Buses were diverted at: Hindmata, King’s Circle, Maheshwari Udyan, Elphinstone Road, Sion and Kanjurmarg, due to flooding on streets. They were diverted through flyovers and alternative roads. Buses were behind schedule by 20 minutes
