These bravehearts conquered many hardships to reach the starting line-up at yesterday's marathon.

They finished the race as winners and will return home with their heads held high


Zend Mirwan Zend
The 76-year-old missed the registration deadline this year. However, this did not discourage the man, suffering from Parkinson’s disease, from running from Flora Fountain to CST in support of a cause



Monika Athare
The second runner-up in the women’s half marathon, Athare is the daughter of a farmer in Nasik. She plans to use the prize money to help meet the expenses of her family

Lalita Babbar
The winner of the women’s half marathon said that women are not encouraged to take up sports in India. She plans to spread awareness and encourage more women to take up the sport

Rohini Raut
The daughter of a truck driver, Raut struggled to meet expenses to fund her sporting career. She finished third in the women’s half-marathon

Saugat Bhattacharya
He was unable to participate last year as he was a smoker. The 32-yr-old quit smoking and successfully completed the half-marathon this year

Sachin Patil
The son of an electrician in a sugar mill in Kolhapur, Patil finished second in the half marathon. He plans to use his prize money to help pay off his father’s debtsu00a0
