'Fifty Shades of Grey' has been described as a "modern love story involving two complex characters," by the film's screenwriter.
Kelly Marcel, the British screenwriter charged with translating the bestselling book for the big screen, told Style magazine that the BDSM-obsessed Christian Grey is an “old-fashioned and romantic” hero and the success of the novel was not just down to sex, the Telegraph reported.
Instead, she said that it was the romance of the sado-masochistic tale that appealed to women.
