BJP leader Gopinath Munde came back to the topic in his trademark style and slammed Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar for their failure to get relief packages for the state’s 125 drought-affected talukas.
First Munde presented Advocate Ujwal Nikam, senior journalist Dinkar Raikar, Grahak Peth founder Suryakant Pathak and veteran Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh leader Prem Advani with the Shahir Annabhau Sathe Award and praised their work. Only after that did he launch his political speech, even lashing out at Mayawati without taking her name for her penchant for statues of herself.
“Earlier, statues and memorials of leaders were put up posthumously,” he said. “Now leaders who are alive are installing their statues and setting up towns in their name.” Indicating his willingness to be chief minister of the state, Munde assured the followers of Shahir Annabhau Sathe that land would be made available for their community once he was in power.
