Apart from Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, another name that was closest to the Munnabhai franchise was its director Rajkumar Hirani.
However, buzz is that producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra has signed Subhash Kapoor (Phas Gaya Re Obama and Jolly LLB) to step into Hirani’s shoes. Kapoor will be directing the third installment of the Munnabhai series.
A source says, “The third installment is one of the biggest and the most awaited films today. Hirani was involved in the process of finding a replacement director. Vinod, Raju and writer Abhijat Joshi saw Jolly LLB in a special screening and liked the film very much. They felt that Subhash’s sensibility matched what they were looking for.”
Sources also add that the film has been titled Munna Bhai Chale Dilli and both Boman Irani and Arshad had given glowing reviews about their experience of working with Subhash.
Chopra says, “After a long search, we found an individual with the right sensibility and approach to work with us.”
