Discarded India opener and Tamil Nadu stalwart Murali Vijay slammed an unbeaten 151 which helped Rest of India take the vital first innings lead on the second day of the Irani Trophy game against Ranji Trophy champions Rajasthan.
After bowling out Rajasthan for 253 on the opening day, Vijay and Mumbai’s Ajinkya Rahane denied the Ranji champions of an early breakthrough. Rahane was run out for a well made 81 (12 x 4) as Rest lost their first wicket with the scoreboard reading 173.

Skipper and one-drop batsman Cheteshwar Pujara then got together with Vijay for another rollicking partnership which yielded 153 runs before Pujara was caught behind by Dishant Yagnik off Aniket Choudhary for 78 towards the end of the day. Vijay clubbed 18 fours and five sixes during his 257-ball innings which gave him his tenth first-class century.
