Music's battleground: Mumbai's bands to butt heads

The competition is fierce but Mumbai's bands are ready to battle it out this week to get a chance to participate in Hard Rock Café's Global Battle of the Bands

Don’t fight a battle if you don’t gain anything by winning. Erwin Rommel, one of Germany’s most respected military leaders in World War Two, might not have had the Hard Rock Café’s Global Battle of the Bands in mind when he uttered those famous words, but it seems the participants in the competition have certainly gone ahead with the same spirit.

The annual international competition that sees bands vying for the top spot, has already got its finalists for the Mumbai round. The Koniac Net, Indo Gypsies and Twist to Break Seal will be competing for the top spot on April 10.

Emphasising the need for providing such platforms for talent, Bhavna Narula, General Manager, Digital Marketing, Hard Rock Café, says, “One of the key ideas is to provide a platform to upcoming talent, who otherwise do not get the opportunity to perform at the Hard Rock stage. Also, apart from the prize money, the band that wins the top spot in the global battle, gets to record an album with the international Hard Rock label,” she tells us.

While the bands had to submit original music to participate in the competition, fans on Facebook and prominent members of the music industry judged the bands. The winner of Mumbai’s round of the competition will compete against other winners from Hard Rock Café locations around the world. The top 25 bands to emerge victorious from there, will be judged by an esteemed panel of celebrities and music industry professionals in order to come up with one grand prize winner.

This year, the grand prize winner gets a chance to perform at Hard Rock Live Rome, an outdoor music festival that will embrace more than 50,000 fans from across Italy. For the winner of the Mumbai round that takes place on the 10th, the battle is far from over.
