What: Art Musings gallery is showcasing Quarto '15, a group show featuring four contemporary artists: Baiju Parthan, Chittrovanu Mazumdar, Gopikrishna and Raghava KK. The gallery will display important works from their archives, which are part of their permanent collection, along with recent paintings.
Untitled work by Chittrovanu Mazumdar, Acrylic on canvas
How: Parthan is an intermedia artist, working with traditional media of painting as well as digital technology based installation art. He employs arcane symbols, found imagery, as well as contemporary photographic materials that are woven together to create paintings which reveal a dense multi-layered landscape. Gopikrishna’s oil paintings appear as though they were pages from a book of fairytales.
Chorus - 2 by Baiju Parthan 3D rendering and photography, lenticular print
In his surrealistic canvas, one can witness the ordinary and the impossible, unity and solitude, illumination and darkness. Raghava KK is a multidisciplinary artist, who works in genres as disparate as painting, film, installation, multimedia, iPad Art and performance.
Goat turtles of the moving forest by Gopikrishna, oil on canvas
His work conceptually grapples with the construct of identity, gender and sexuality, and the absence of interpersonal context in today’s world of online identity performance. Chittrovanu Mazumdar’s works are composed of bold brushstrokes, elements of collage, abstract spaces and layered figurative imagery. His raw, almost expressionistic, canvases create a powerful emotional response.
