Out, damned spot! When Lady Macbeth cried this in the famous sleepwalking scene, little did Shakespeare know that it would become a commonplace phrase, some day.

The iconic character he created in this woman who was always seen in a conflictual role between embracing her feminity and discarding it, will come alive on stage this weekend through a production by Kathak dancer Vikram Iyengar.

Crossings: Exploring The Facets Of Lady Macbeth weaves together elements of Indian classical music and dance alongside text-based drama to explore the aspects of Lady Macbeth.

With references to figures from Indian mythology such as Putana and Shakti, this piece examines what it means to be feminine or de-feminised through the contradictions within this complex character. The complex personality will be brought to light by performances by four actors and dancers using Kathak, Bharatanatyam and Manipuri as well as passages from their play as their medium of communication.

Hush! the afternoon is in session

On Saturday, 12 noon to 3 pm
Where Mocha Mojo, Pali Hill, Bandra (W).
Register on 9320098621

Can a comic book be silent and still tell a short and affecting tale? Independent publisher Manta Ray's debut release, Hush, does just that with the help of a non-linear narrative on how a young girl reacts to abuse. For those who have devoured the book, or for those who want to, the team behind the graphic novella will swoop down upon Mocha Mojo tomorrow, original sketches and artist sketchbooks in tow, as part of the event organised by graphic novel, comics and Manga library Leaping Windows. There's also going to be a comic quiz, board games and loads of books, making it a way better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than snoozing through it.

On saturday, why don't you play with clay?

On Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm
Where Potters Place, Sumati Building, Lt Dilip Gupte Road, Mahim (W).
Call 9773095005

There's something about clay that makes grown-ups behave like kids. Who can resist picking up a cool chunk of clay, squashing it, letting it ooze from between your fingers and moulding it into something you can identify? On every second Saturday of the month, self-taught pottery artist Shalan Dere throws open the doors to her pottery studio.

Walk in, lay claim to a lump, try your hand at the potter's wheel under her expert guidance and take home your gorgeous (or not) creation for free. For a nominal amount, you can also get your creation kiln-fired. Engage in some soul searching in Shalan's peaceful garden and come out of the weekend de-stressed with a wobbly pot in tow.

Get into the skin of the character
On Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm
Where The Art Loft , Valentino Rest, first floor, above Patel Store, Mehboob Studios, Bandra (W).
Register on 9930386960
Cost Rs 3,000

How does an actor create a consistently believable character that is truly an emotional instrument? If you have always wondered how to do it, take pointers from writer-filmmaker Jeffrey Goldberg (don't confuse him with the American scribe -- this one's the guy whose first feature film Solomon Enev premiered at the 14th St Petersburg International Film Festival).

He is back at The Art Loft for an advanced workshop in Character Development and Backstory. Learn how a role is conceived and performed, know about the tools needed to construct the very real universe of the character and see how you can give a rich and honest performance.u00a0

When musicu00a0echoes off a gothic edifice
On Saturday, 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm
Where St. Xavier's College, 5, Mahapalika Marg, Dhobi Talao.

It is not often that you get to watch a musical prodigy in his element, surrounded by the gorgeous Gothic facade of St Xavier's College at Dhobi Talao. In this nippy weather, it lies in the strains of music that resonate through the heritage structure throughout January.

St Xavier's Indian Music Group's (IMG) annual Birthday Concert that takes place tomorrow (they turn 38 this year) will see flautist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasiya accompanied by Vijay Ghate on the tabla. The Birthday Concert is a prelude to Janfest, the annual Indian Classical Music Festival that will take place later this month. It's also when the line-up for Jan Fest, a must-attend in the cultural calendar of every Classical music enthusiast, is announced. This one's a perfect setting for such divine music -- be there or be square.
