My parents don't want me to be a couch potato

Dear Diana,
I am 16 years old and studying in class XI. I am not interested in sports or any extra-curricular activities. When I am not attending my classes or doing my studies, I am glued to the TV set. I can while away hours watching television. My parents repeatedly tell me that I am lazy and a couch potato as apart from class work I do nothing. They have decided it's high time I went out for some fresh air. I really don't know what to do? I love to spend time watching TV the whole day. What else can I be doing? Can you suggest?

Dear Rahil,
You belong to those breed of people who can sit glued in front of the idiot box forever. What your parents are saying is right. You are young and need to get away from the idiot box. Why don't you begin by running errands for your folks. It will be a good form of exercise as well as of great help for your parents. You could also help in some household work. Along with friends you could visit a place to hang out like a shopping mall. Their concerns are genuine as they care about your health. Also, remember that long hours of viewing also puts a strain on your eyes.
