My son has left home due to my nagging

Updated on: 23 April,2012 07:03 AM IST  |
Dear Diana |

Dear Diana, I'm a worried mother as my elder son walked out after a bitter quarrel with me. He believes I'm too harsh on him and irritate him with my constant queries about his well-being.

My son has left home due to my nagging

He’s a college drop-out and works at a call centre. I just want him to have a decent day job. He is staying with his colleague. My husband blames me for this situation when I know it’s not entirely my fault. I just want the best for him but I can’t turn a blind eye to all his stunts when it comes to his career. I don’t know what to do as he’s stubborn and says he won’t ever come back to stay with us.

Dear Romi,
You feel your actions are justified and he feels he is right. Your constant nagging has left him in a hopeless situation which has forced him to leave home. You need to cool down. Anger will only lead to more friction. For the moment just let him be. At least you are aware that he is staying with a colleague. It is not easy surviving alone in Mumbai and after a while he will feel the pinch. Meanwhile, may be your younger son and husband can speak to him and settle matters. Also remember his mind is rattled by what is happening on the home front. So for a while relax and let him be. I am sure as he grows older, he will understand. Constantly berating him is going to be an exercise in futility.u00a0
