Residents at the rehabilitation colony say food poisoning was the cause of 12 deaths, but authorities claim they were natural
The death of 12 beggars after consuming dinner at a rehabilitation center situated on Magadi road created a furor among the dwelling, while the authorities are claiming that the deaths are natural.
But the cremation done in a hurried manner has raised suspicions the bodies were sent for burial without a post mortem.
According to eyewitness accounts, the deceased were fine until dinner was served. "Right after having dinner (rice and ragi balls), some of them started vomiting and had loose motions.

The rest 14 beggars, who were seriously ill, have been shifted to Isolation hospital at the Old Madras Road for treatment.
Manje Gowda, president of colony, said, "Many of the deceased at the rehabilitation centre were either too aged, or suffering from various illnesses such as diarrhea. The deaths are natural."
Probe ordered
Social Welfare Minister D Sudhakar, while visiting the colony, said, "The deaths are all natural. I have ordered an inquiry to find out the cause of death."
Social Welfare Commisisoner Manjunath Prasad will submit a report with in three days, and suitable action will be taken based on the report.
The Kamakshipalya police have registered a case and are investigating.
