Narayan Rane rubbishes Narendra Modi's claims on development; calls him a 'liar'

"I have got a typical Marathi word for him (Modi), that is 'thapadya' (liar)," Rane said at the state Congress meet 'Vision 2014' for the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls here.u00a0

Citing GDP figures, the senior Congress leader slammed Modi's rhetoric that Gujarat was leading on many fronts and said, "Gujarat cannot be ahead of Maharashtra in any sector. Our GDP is Rs 12 lakh crore, whereas their GDP is Rs 6 lakh crore."

Last week, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had sought to puncture the development card of his Gujarat counterpart saying it was "not fair for one person" to take credit for the work of the entire Gujarati people, known for their enterprising nature.

Rane also took a dig at senior BJP leaders for the PM clamour and said," during every election, they fight for the Prime Ministerial candidate. (Everyone) right from Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj and Modi are fighting (to become the PM candidate). If (Gopinath) Munde is asked, he (too) will not say no," Rane said.

Stating that internal conflict within BJP will benefit the Congress, Rane called on his party cadres to sink differences and start working for the 2014 general elections. He also criticised Shiv Sena for their functioning in the BMC. "Because of Shiv Sena, Mumbai could not achieve the Shanghai dream," he said.
