Nashik: A local court remanded five persons to police custody who were arrested in connection with a case of attempting to kill a minor girl and involving in witchcraft activities in Maharashtra's Nashik district.


The court remanded occultists Bandu Jagtap (45) and Nandu Sitaram Jadhav (40), victim's parents - Onkar Soma Dambare and his wife Malanbai and their son Rahul to police custody yesterday till January 22.


The five persons were arrested in last three days by Satana police for allegedly carrying out witchcraft activities in their residence premises in a bid to search a treasure of Rs 8 crore and attempting to kill the girl as human sacrifice, police had said.


All the accused were booked under IPC Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 147 (punishment for rioting), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed) and section 3 of Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act, 2013, the officer said.
