Following the unexplained NATO airstrike on Saturday, a meeting of senior cabinet ministers and military service chiefs chaired by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has ordered the United States to vacate Shamsi airbase within 15 days, and has decided to review all its diplomatic, military and intelligence activities with the United States and NATO. The Pakistani army accused NATO helicopters and fighter jets of firing on two border checkposts and killing 24 soldiers on Saturday. In response, officials closed Torkham and Chaman, two key border crossings, used by convoys carrying supplies to Afghanistan.
The attack, which took place early Saturday in the Mohmand region of Pakistan's tribal belt along the Afghan border, was condemned by army chief, Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayanias.
Meanwhile, NATO officials in Kabul said they were investigating the incident.
