A PMC clerk was knifed with the intention to rob when he stopped to answer nature's call on Jail Road last night.
Namdeo Yashwant Shirke (45), who works at the Birth and Death Registration Department, halted on the deserted Jail Road to relieve himself when an unidentified man attacked him with a knife.
Shirke suffered a deep gash on his face when he tried to block the attack and was saved when some locals heard his screams and rushed to his rescue in the nick of time. He was taken to Sassoon Hospital for treatment.
"I had just halted on the side of the road when a man came and started attacking me with a sharp-edged weapon. I cried for help," said Shirke. "He wanted to rob me after the attack but got scared on seeing the people gathering."
No police case has been registered yet.
