Torrential rains affected several parts of Navi Mumbai forcing pedestrians to wade through large amounts of water. On Monday alone till 4 pm the satellite city recorded 118.5 mm of rainfall. At Turbhe a 30-year-old man who was trying to cover his home with a plastic sheet, fell and fractured his left leg. Dada Mane, an electrician, fell from a height of 20 feet and is currently recuperating at Navi Mumbai Municipal Hospital in Vashi.

At 9.30 am on Monday, Mane along with his 11-year-old son, climbed the roof of his home with a plastic sheet and a heavy stone. “After I placed the plastic on the roof, I decided to keep a heavy stone over it. However, I slipped and fell.” He injured his head, waist and leg. His wife Seema rushed him to a hospital in Nerul, but the casualty ward there was shut due to leakage.
“We then came to NMMC hospital in Vashi,” she said. Mane added, “Thankfully nothing happened to my son. When we climbed the roof there was hardly any rain and therefore I thought it would be safe.” Doctors at the hospital said that Mane would require an operation on his left leg to help it heal. Trees fell in Airoli, Kopar Khairane, Vashi, Sanpada, Nerul and Belapur. However, nobody was injured. Konkan Bhavan premises at Belapur was flooded leading to power cuts in the building.u00a0
