A 14-year-old boy from Belapur fell from the second floor of an under-construction building, where he was playing with his friends, and died on the spot. Though the incident took place around 8.30 pm on Monday, his body was recovered the following morning after an extensive search by his family members. His body could not be spotted as he had fallen through the gap of the lift and also because the site remains quite dark all the time. Belapur police have registered an accidental death case and are investigating the matter.

According to police, the deceased has been identified as Om Sushil Jha, 14. He used to reside with his parents in Agroli village of Belapur and was a Std VIII student. His father is an auto-rickshaw driver, while his mother is a housewife.

Nobody aware
"The incident took place on Monday night, but no one was aware of it. On returning home, when Om’s father couldn’t see his son, he started searching for him. He even asked his friends about his whereabouts, but even they were not aware," said a police officer from CBD police station.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, a relative said, "Om's father searched for him till 3am on Tuesday. He even visited the under-construction building, but as it was dark he couldn’t find him. The building is hardly 100 metres from their house.”

On being found, Om was immediately shifted to the civic hospital, where he was declared brought dead. “Doctors claimed that he died due to a head injury and fractures. As per the post-mortem report, though the incident took place around 8:30 pm, he was alive till 5 am the following day,” added the relative.

Om’s family members refused to comment on the issue as they are in a state of shock.
