A 23-Year old Indian Navy sailor allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself in the neck on-board INS Talwar in Dry Dock in Naval Dockyard on Saturday. According to them, Raj had complained to his parents Devdasan and Janki Rani about the alleged harassment he was subjected to by his seniors. He told them that he had planed to escalate the issue and approach higher authorities.

Indian Navy spokesperson Narendkumar Vispute said the incident occurred around 8 pm on Saturday and Raj was rushed to INHS Ashvini after he was discovered with gunshot wounds on his neck, but was declared dead on arrival.

Vispute said, “A board of inquiry has been formed to investigate the matter.” Police officials have registered a case of accidental death for now. “We were called by the Navy after which we registered a case and the body was sent for post-mortem to the JJ Group of Hospitals. We are waiting for the autopsy report,” said a police official.u00a0
