Awhad, a former minister and close aide of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, told mid-day that his lawyers were in the process of drafting legal papers to file a criminal complaint against the channel and its anchor. “The language used by the anchor during the debate on October 6 on the surgical strikes is unpardonable. The media has the right to take a stand, but not to use abusive language against anyone merely because he/she is not toeing the line taken by the anchor,” Awhad said.
According to NCP leaders, the criminal complaint will be filed at the Thane court either today or tomorrow. “We have initiated a legal battle against this dictatorship. We will see it to its logical end,” said a close confidante of Awhad.
NCP chief Pawar had congratulated the Centre for the surgical strikes, but had slammed the BJP government for making the operation public. Pawar had stated that there were four surgical strikes during the UPA regime, but there was never any noise made over the attacks to gain mileage as politics had to be kept separate from the armed forces.
