Following the resignation of 3 party MLAs, Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor, along with 40 other corporators, resigned yesterday, in what is seen as a last-ditch effort to force the state govt into regularising illegal constructions in the industrial town
Putting further pressure on the state government, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Mayor Mohini Lande and forty other NCP corporators from PCMC resigned yesterday.
The resignations were tendered in support for the three NCP MLAs and one associate MLA of NCP who had earlier in the daysubmitted their resignation letters to assembly speaker Dilip Walse-Patil.

The MLAs are demanding that the state government regularise the illegal constructions in the industrial town.
MLAs Anna Bansode, Laxman Jagtap, Bapu Pathare and Vilas Lande (associate MLA of NCP) claimed that the Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan continued to overlook their demand for regularising illegal structures in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, despite frequent follow-ups since last year.

“To regularise the illegal constructions in the district and to return 12.5 per cent of the land acquired from farmers three decades ago were our main reasons to resign from our post,” said NCP MLA Bansode.
The MLAs had threatened to resign over the same issue last month. Bansode added that for the past one year, he and the other three MLAs were constantly pursuing the issue.

“The call attention notice on the same would be held during the ongoing winter session of the assembly. However, we will not take back our resignation unless CM Chavan takes a concrete decision on the issue,” said Bansode.

Bansode also said that the illegal constructions could be regularised by charging a fine against those structures.
The issue of illegal construction has been raging in Pimpri-Chinchwad since June last year when PCMC commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi decided to turn the hammer against them.
There has been a widespread protest by even opposition party leaders. Shiv Sena leader Shrirang Barne had also led a morcha to Mumbai from Pimpari-Chinchwad on July 29.

While analysing yesterday’s development, political scholar Dr Prakash Pawar said that all the four MLAs played a safe game by submitting their resignation to the speaker who is also from the same party to which they belong.
“It, however, seems that this time around Chief Minister Chavan has to take cognisance of their actions, considering the party’s poll debacle in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Chhattisgarh,” said Pawar. u00a0
