Carter's latest addition to the ever-expanding khao galli, whips up Italian, English, Oriental and Middle Eastern dishes with panache

It takes some courage to open a restaurant on Carter Road's already-packed stretch of eateries. Every cuisine that could catch a foodie's fancy is available here, and Lisantro, the new kid on this block, has interesting fare to serve. The restaurant offers outdoor and indoor seating. The du00e9cor is not particularly eye-catching, with dark wooden tables and photographs mounted on walls. If you happen to visit on a rainy day, we suggest you head straight into the enclosed area. If it's full, like it was on the evening we dropped in, watch out for a wet and slippery floor. The service is quick and the staff, perhaps a tad too affable.

Lisantro offers a little something from across the globe Italian, English and Oriental to Middle Eastern cuisine.

There is a lot to choose from but the Italian menu has the most interesting choices. We settled for a Mushroom Corn Bruschetta (Rs 160). Our drinks, Cranberry Surprise (Rs 65) and Pink Lady (Rs 60), and the Bruschetta arrived promptly. Topped with generous amounts of cheese, the Bruschetta lacked a distinct flavour. But the Cranberry Surprise was a tangy smooth blend that we recommend.

For entru00e9e, we picked Pasta Arrabbiata (Rs 180) from the vegetarian selection and the Lisantro's Special (Rs 275). The Pasta Arrabiata comes with a thick red sauce flavoured with olive and basil. The quantity is just right if you are not a heavy eater, but we could neither see nor taste the mushrooms that the description on the menu promised. The Lisantro Special should be on your choice if you aren't the sort to count the calories later.

It's a delicious combination of crispy chicken (they fry it with bread crumbs till its golden brown) that stays tender on the inside. It is served with a generous helping of brown mushroom and spinach sauce with a rich garlic and pepper flavour. The dish is accompanied with crispy potato wedges and greens.

We were glad we saved space for desert. The Lisantro Chocolate Pate (Rs 80) had a soft chocolatey top that carried a hint of whisky, and a crumbly biscuit base. A meal for two will cost you Rs 1,000 approx.

At A4/ 5, Gangagiri Co-Op Society, 308, off Carter Road, Khar (W).
