Some days all you want to do is curl up your toes and laze around at home. These are times when lethargy flexes its muscles and even the idea of a tantalising meal with friends can't get you to step out. No matter how hungry or gastronomically charged up you are, the mere thought of budging seems extremely 'distasteful'.
Last Friday was such a day. And I had friends coming over.

Mumbai tawa biryani

That's a double whammy and to add to my woes, as tired as I was, I longed for some good food. Even in my general state of languor, I refused to sacrifice my appetite at the fast-food altar. So I chucked the option of calling the regular eat out places I diligently save on my phone, and decided to try out Spice Market's Express Delivery service instead.

Carrying forward
After looking through their extensive and impressive menu, I placed an order for the party pack for Pathhar ke kebab which they told me was their specialty, Rajputana sooley in grills and roasts, Yakhni pulao, Prawn butter masala, Rajasthani laal maas, Garlic naan and Mango Shrikhand. That's a whole lot I know, but I had friends coming over and yes, well, I admit I got a wee bit carried away when I saw their range of food.
It was not until the food actually arrived that I realised that I had ordered much more than we probably would be able to finish. Along with the food came an assortment of pudina, coconut and tamarind
chutneys.

Dot on time
The prices are slightly higher than your locality restaurant, but for the significant portions you get, it works out to be quite reasonable. The food arrived within 45 minutes to the watch like they promised. So it was good so far.

Lethargy went out of the window as soon as the delightful smell of the food started wafting around the apartment. We attacked the neatly packed parcels like a bunch of piranhas. I have eaten at Spice Market before, and I love their kebabs. This time, however, I must say I was let down. The kebabs -- both Patthar ke kebabs and Rajputana sooley -- were very salty. We couldn't eat too many and had to keep them aside for later. A little hesitant about the food now, we treaded with caution. But from here on the food was quite good -- tasty, non- greasy despite being north Indian cuisine and the meat and prawns were so very succulent. The Yakhni pulao, a Kashmiri dish, was near about authentic. The prawns too, tasted good with a spicy curry and enough to feed three people. The Shrikhand though is nothing extraordinary and you might get better stuff at your local sweetmeat shop or if you take the pains to go to the Walled City.

What's the deal?
While Spice Market in Saket is known and frequented for its regional curry delicacies, the restaurant recently came up with an express delivery where you can just order from your favourite dishes. The food is the spicy and masaledar north Indian fare, but better than what you would find at your neighbourhood dhaba. Give it a shot, we say!
