Former Costa Rican midfielder and newly appointed head coach of Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Mumbai City FC, Alexandre Henrique Borges Guimaraes stressed on the need of a clean atmosphere in the dressing room and hopes to make his squad a performance-oriented one in the upcoming third edition. The Ranbir Kapoor co-owned outfit, which finished sixth last year, encountered numerous obstacles off the pitch. Midfielder Andre Moritz’s sudden departure after an alleged spat with then marquee player-cum-head coach Nicolas Anelka and former assistant coach Oscar Bruzon’s cold war with the Frenchman did raise questions that all is not well in the Mumbai camp.

Guimaraes is quite aware of the stories that plagued the side, which is why he’s willing to give ample time to ensure a good atmosphere prevails and the side gels well. “I have been aware of the situation but that is in the past now. This season I bring to the table my international experience. I know a good atmosphere is very important to achieve goals the club has. I will give a lot of importance,” he told reporters yesterday.
