The police said that in November last year, the survivor, a minor, experienced bouts of vomiting. When her mother asked her what the matter was, she could not satisfactorily explain what had happened due to her mental illness. Her mother took her to a nearby hospital where doctors confirmed that she was five months pregnant.

The mother then took her to Malwani police station and filed an FIR. The police started investigations and rounded up many suspects but nothing came of it. After a few days, the cops detained six suspects, took their DNA samples and sent them to the forensic lab.

Meanwhile, the minor was shifted to JJ Hospital, where in January, she delivered a baby boy. The police took the DNA samples of the newborn and sent them to the lab too.

Two days ago, the police received the infant’s DNA report, which confirms that the child’s DNA matches with accused Siraj Abdul Samad Khan (47), an auto rickshaw driver by profession.u00a0On the day of the crime last year, the accused had noticed thegirl playing outside her shanty, kidnapped and raped her, copssaid.

Senior Inspector Abdul Rauf Shaikh of Malwani police station said, “After lodging the FIR, we started picking up all the suspects who knew the victim and talked to her daily. On that basis, also we picked up Siraj Khan, among six others. His DNA samples match with the baby’s. We arrested him and produced him before court.”

The officer added, “At the time of the incident, we held an ID parade of all the accused in front of the girl but she could not identify the culprit as she is mentally challenged.”
